Planet Zoo 2 Is Out Now, and It's on GeForce NOW Day One
Frontier's new zoo sim launched October 13 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and both Frontier and NVIDIA say you can stream it from day one. Here's what to know before you build your first zoo in the cloud.

Big zoo sims and handhelds don’t usually get along. Huge parks full of animals, guests, and simulation logic can bring even a good gaming PC to its knees, never mind a handheld on battery. That’s why I’m excited about this one: Planet Zoo 2 launched today, October 13, 2026, and it’s playable on NVIDIA GeForce NOW from launch.
When it launched
Frontier Developments first announced the October 13 date in May. In its “Countdown to Launch” post on October 12, Frontier confirmed that Planet Zoo 2 unlocks on all platforms at 3pm BST on October 13. That’s:
- 9am CDT (my time)
- 7am PDT / 10am EDT
- 4pm CEST
- 1am AEDT on October 14 in Australia
It’s out on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders got a Bonus Content Pack right up until launch: a Toucan Eat Shop with signage, three animal donation bins, and a Tiger Photo Stand-In Wall.
Is it really on GeForce NOW day one?
Yes, according to both companies. Frontier’s launch FAQ asks “Will Planet Zoo 2 be available on GeForce NOW at launch?” and answers: “Yes! Planet Zoo 2 will be available through NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW cloud gaming service at the same time it launches on all other platforms.”
NVIDIA’s October 2026 GFN Thursday post lists “Planet Zoo 2 (New release on Steam, Oct. 13)” among the month’s incoming games. The GeForce NOW logo also appeared at the end of the game’s reveal trailer back in May, as Cloud Dosage noticed at the time.
One honest caveat: NVIDIA’s monthly lists are based on store release dates, and NVIDIA itself notes those dates don’t guarantee same-day streaming. Frontier’s statement is the firmer promise. If the game isn’t showing up in your GeForce NOW library yet, give it a little time.
Which store does it stream from?
NVIDIA’s listing names Steam. GeForce NOW doesn’t sell games. You buy Planet Zoo 2 on a supported store, link your account, and stream your own copy. So buy it on Steam if you want to stream it. Neither NVIDIA nor Frontier has confirmed any other PC store for GeForce NOW so far.
Membership tiers: what to expect
GeForce NOW has a Free tier plus paid Performance and Ultimate tiers. According to NVIDIA’s October post, Ultimate members get “GeForce RTX 5080-class performance” in the cloud. That’s NVIDIA’s own description, not an independent benchmark.
NVIDIA hasn’t published Planet Zoo 2-specific settings or frame rates for GeForce NOW yet, so I won’t guess at numbers. Here’s how I’m thinking about it:
- Free: fine for trying the game out, but expect session limits and queues.
- Performance: the sweet spot for most players. Fans on r/PlanetZoo who already stream the first game say Performance handles big franchise zoos much better than Free.
- Ultimate: the pick if you want the most headroom for huge zoos, or if you’re streaming to a big screen.
Check NVIDIA’s membership page for current pricing in your region. It varies, and I don’t want to quote a number that’s wrong for you.
What’s new in Planet Zoo 2
Frontier calls it its “most advanced zoo simulation game to date,” with “a generational leap forward in animation and animal behaviour.” The headline features Frontier has announced:
- Aviaries and aquariums for the first time. Flying birds and fully aquatic species are finally part of the series.
- New animals, with habitats where species interact more fully with their environment.
- Wildlife Reserves. Conservation now goes beyond your zoo walls: you restore natural habitats and release animals into the wild.
For longtime Planet Zoo players, aquatic animals and free-flying birds are the long-requested additions. Wildlife Reserves gives the conservation side of the game a real endgame.
Why this matters for handheld players
This is the part I care about on VetTV Handheld. Planet Zoo 2 is a heavy simulation game, and big zoos are exactly the workload that drains a handheld’s battery and pushes its fans. Streaming it through GeForce NOW moves the hard work to NVIDIA’s servers. Your Legion Go, Steam Deck, laptop, or even phone just decodes a video stream.
There are tradeoffs. You need a solid connection, preferably 5GHz Wi-Fi or wired when docked. Fine UI text can soften a bit when compressed. And management sims are forgiving about latency, which makes this genre a great fit for cloud play.
I’ll be trying Planet Zoo 2 on GeForce NOW on my Legion Go and will report back on how it looks and feels. Drop your first impressions, and your zoo names, in the comments.
