Deal: Lenovo Legion Go S With SteamOS (Z1 Extreme, 32GB, 1TB) Drops to $999.99 at Best Buy

The higher-end SteamOS Legion Go S is $580 under Best Buy's listed comparison price. That's real savings against today's prices, but it's still above what this model cost at launch in 2025.

The Verge flagged a deal on Lenovo’s SteamOS handheld today, and it’s the configuration most handheld players would want. Best Buy has the Legion Go S Powered by SteamOS with AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for $999.99. Here’s exactly what’s on sale and how the discount really stacks up.

Prices change fast. I checked on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at about 7:15 PM CT. Best Buy’s and Lenovo’s live pages wouldn’t fully load for me, so the $999.99 figure comes from Best Buy’s product listing data and The Verge’s post from that morning. Check the retailer link before you buy.

The exact model

  • Device: Lenovo Legion Go S Powered by SteamOS, Nebula Nocturne color, model 83N6000GUS.
  • Chip: AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme (eight cores, up to 5.1GHz) with integrated Radeon graphics.
  • Memory and storage: 32GB LPDDR5X-7500 (soldered, not upgradable) and a 1TB M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 SSD, plus a microSD slot.
  • Screen: 8-inch 1920x1200 IPS touchscreen, 120Hz with VRR, 500 nits, 100% sRGB. It’s not OLED, despite how some deal listings describe it.
  • Other specs: 55.5Wh battery with a 65W charger, two USB-C (USB4) ports, Wi-Fi 6E, Hall effect sticks and triggers, adjustable triggers, a touchpad, and a weight of roughly 730 to 740g.

This is not the base Legion Go S, which uses the less powerful Ryzen Z2 Go chip, and it’s not a Legion Go 2.

The price, and how big the discount really is

  • Sale price: $999.99 at Best Buy (sold by Best Buy), per Best Buy’s product listing and The Verge’s October 18 post.
  • Best Buy’s comparison price: $1,579.99. Against that, you save $580, or about 36.7%.
  • Lenovo’s own store: recent checks by other outlets and price trackers show the same model number at $1,607.99 on Lenovo.com. Against that, the Best Buy price is $608 lower, about 37.8%.
  • Launch price, for perspective: this configuration launched at $829.99 in May 2025, per Windows Central and The Verge’s review at the time. Today’s $999.99 deal is $170 above that launch price.

So “hundreds off” is accurate against today’s listed prices, but handheld prices have climbed a lot since last year. Valve, for example, raised the Steam Deck OLED to $789 (512GB) and $949 (1TB) in May 2026, citing memory and storage costs. Slickdeals’ deal history also lists lower Best Buy prices for this model earlier this year, which suggests it isn’t necessarily an all-time low.

End date: Neither Best Buy nor The Verge lists one. Treat it as available while it lasts.

Why it’s worth a look

The Verge’s Cameron Faulkner pitches it as an alternative to the $789 Steam Deck OLED. It runs the same SteamOS software but has a bigger, faster 1080p-class 120Hz screen, double the RAM and storage, and a somewhat faster chip. His colleague Sean Hollister’s 2025 review found SteamOS made the Legion Go S much better than its Windows version. He also noted that the Steam Deck OLED still wins on battery life in lighter games and has twin trackpads.

My take (opinion)

I own the original Legion Go and run SteamOS on it. Living with SteamOS on Lenovo hardware has been a good experience for me, and the console-style suspend and resume alone makes it feel much more like a games machine than Windows did. I haven’t used this Legion Go S model, though, so I can’t speak to its battery life or ergonomics firsthand.

If you’ve been waiting for a 32GB SteamOS handheld under $1,000, this is a fair price by 2026 standards. Just know you’re paying more than early buyers did.
